Privacy
Short version: your files never leave your Mac. We count visits and anonymous usage so we know what to improve, and you can switch both off.
The Orange app
Every conversion happens on your Mac. Orange never uploads, copies or inspects your files on a server.
Orange sends anonymous usage statistics to PostHog, a product analytics service:
- that Orange was installed or updated, and that it was opened (at most once a day while it runs);
- when the wheel opens: the kind of file (for example “images”), how it was opened and how many files;
- when a conversion or action finishes: the formats (for example HEIC → JPG) or the action (for example Compress), whether it worked, how many files and roughly how long it took;
- a few settings: the trigger key, the wheel style and whether shake to open is on;
- the Orange version, macOS version and whether your Mac has Apple silicon or Intel;
- a random ID made on your Mac, so repeat use isn’t counted as new people.
PostHog works out your country from the connection; Orange’s PostHog project doesn’t keep IP addresses.
Orange never sends file names, folder names, file sizes, file contents, or anything you type.
To turn it off, untick Share anonymous usage statistics in the welcome window, or later in Settings → General → Privacy. Nothing is sent after that.
Once a day Orange checks orangeformac.site for a new version. Like any web request, this shows your IP address to the site’s host (Vercel). Orange adds nothing else to it.
This website
This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which parts of the page are used, such as the download button, the interactive demo and the FAQ. IP addresses aren’t stored by Google Analytics, Google signals and advertising features are off, and nothing is sold or shared for ads.
Visitors in the EU, UK and Switzerland are asked first. Until you accept, no analytics cookies are set.
The site’s host, Vercel, also counts page views with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn’t identify you.
